Norscot has been in business since 1984. This page records some of our milestones.
Started trading as general builders under Highland Homes Ltd from home in Scarfskerry.
Formed Fairmitre (Highland) Ltd and started manufacturing timber windows and doors from a shed in Scarfskerry.
Changed name to Norscot Joinery Ltd.
Moved workshop from Scarfskerry to Bower radio station and re-named Bower Workshops.
Completed Phase 1 re-development of Bower Workshops, adding a further 4,500 sq.ft. of factory floor space.
Started manufacturing PVCu windows & doors at Bower Workshops.
Introduced the original ‘Caithness Cottage’ and started manufacturing timber frame kits.
Started manufacturing sliding mirror doors and internal door sets.
Introduced full range of timber frame house designs under ‘Highland Cottage’, ‘Town House’ & ‘Architectural’ banners.
Opened showroom in Canal Road, Inverness.
Callum Grant joined the Board as Commercial Director.
Acquired 2 acres of land adjoining Bower Workshops for future expansion.
Purchased first lorry to deliver own goods and provide a transport service for others.
Started manufacturing the ‘Steelwood’ composite door.
Completed Phase 2 re-development of Bower Workshops, adding a further 13,500 sq.ft. of factory floor space.
Started manufacturing window blinds.
Moved Inverness showroom to purpose built premises on Carse Industrial Estate.
Secured ISO 9000 QA accreditation.
Secured Investor in People accreditation.
Started manufacturing the ‘Alarbond’ timber clad aluminium window system.
Jason Fraser joined the Board as Technical Director.
Doubled size of Inverness premises to form new offices, showroom and store.
Voted ‘Best in Scotland for Customer Service’ by Network VEKA.
Introduced revised and expanded range of timber frame houses to offer a total of 64 standard designs.
Norscot celebrated its 25th anniversary
Started manufacturing Design-5 aluminium clad timber composite window, under licence
Awarded Highland Council contract to replace the windows and external doors in Castletown Primary School
Undertook strategic business review and modified brand image
Acquired design rights to A M Profiles Ltd’s window and door range and launched sister company, AluWood Windows Ltd, to promote throughout the UK
Awarded contracts to build 23 self-catering lodges and supply structural timber frame for hotel extension at Natural Retreats development in John O’Groats
Awarded Highland Council contract to replace the windows and external doors in both Rosebank & Kingussie Primary Schools
Subsidiary Cottage Kit Homes Ltd formed to promote an enlarged range of our highly successful cottage kits throughout the UK
Norscot celebrated its 30th anniversary
Installed log burning boiler in our Bower headquarters, heating both factory and offices, to improve energy efficiency within the company
Voted Best in Scotland for customer service by Network VEKA
Awarded Highland Council Contract to replace the windows and external doors at Brora Primary School
Awarded Highland Council Contract to replace the windows and external doors in Ross House, Dornoch for North Highland College part of the University of the Highlands & Islands
Joined Offsite Solutions Scotland a collaborative partnership of leading timber frame manufacturers including CCG Glasgow, Stewart Milne and Scotframe to help grow the industry both in Scotland and the rest of the UK
Installed a new Salvador SuperAngle 600 Angular Cutting Optimizing Saw in our timber frame workshop at the Bower factory in order to increase productivity
Callum Grant appointed Managing Director with former MD Peter Body taking up a part-time role as Chairman
Norscot, in partnership with the University of Strathclyde, awarded ‘Innovation of the Year’ at the Knowledge Exchange Awards 2018.
